Joseph Lawrence "Joe" McDowell
July 9, 1924 ~ December 16, 2007


Joseph Lawrence “Joe” McDowell, a former Cushing resident now of Dumas, Texas, passed away Sunday December 16, 2007 in Dumas, TX at the age of 83 years.

The son of the late Jesse C. and Dolly Youtsey McDowell, Joe was born on July 9, 1924 in Terlton, OK. and was reared and educated in the Mannford, Jennings area.

He was united in marriage to Beulah M. Varnell on February 22, 1944 in Jennings, OK and to this union one son, Vernon was born.

Joe had worked for Kerr McGee for over 37 years prior to his retirement in 1986.

In 1990 the couple moved to Dumas, TX and had lived there since that time.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dumas.

Survivors include his wife of over 63 years, Beulah of the home; one son, Vernon McDowell and his wife Anita of Dumas; three grandchildren, Marsha White and her husband Luther of Springtown, Texas, Brenda Rice and her husband Bruce and James McDowell and his wife Kara all of Dumas; seven great-grandchildren, Erin, John and Nathan White, A.J. and Paden Rice, Shayla and Bryson McDowell and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister Mary DeBaun.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 2 P.M. in the Fairlawn Cemetery with Ralph Hickman officiating.

The family will greet friends in the Floyd Family Center east of the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 2200 W. 7th St., Amarillo, TX 79106 and Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, TX 79029.
