Seaman Alvin Mayo

Seaman Alvin Mayo, retired Methodist Minister, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 at his residence at the age of 79 years.

The son of the late Claudius H. Mayo and Lucinda B. Hoffpauir Mayo, Alvin was born on October 10, 1927 in Clay, LA and was reared and educated in Lake Charles, LA.

He was united in marriage to Donalda Baldwin on September 28, 1952 in Bethany, OK and to this union three children, Donalvin, Delwyn and Cindy were born.

Alvin attended and graduated from Bethany Peniel College, receiving his T.H.B. Degree in 1952. He had served as a minister with the Church of the Nazarene for seven years before returning to LA, where he joined the ministry with the Methodist Church.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cushing; a former member of the Cushing Lions Club and he enjoyed working with radios.

Surviving include his wife of over 54 years, Donalda of the home; two sons, Donalvin Mayo of the home and Delwyn Mayo of Bethany; one daughter Cindy Jane Freeman and her husband David of Marrero, LA; two sisters, Helen Daigle of CA and Minnie Ruth Sayes of LA; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Claudius A. Mayo and Herman Mayo and one sister Emma Lissa McFillen.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2006 at 2 P.M. in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Ted Uhlig, pastor, and Reverend Harold Johnson, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
