© Davis Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma Printed With Permission December 2006 October 10, 1927 ~ December 18, 2006 Seaman Alvin Mayo, retired Methodist Minister, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 at his residence at the age of 79 years. The son of the late Claudius H. Mayo and Lucinda B. Hoffpauir Mayo, Alvin was born on October 10, 1927 in Clay, LA and was reared and educated in Lake Charles, LA. He was united in marriage to Donalda Baldwin on September 28, 1952 in Bethany, OK and to this union three children, Donalvin, Delwyn and Cindy were born. Alvin attended and graduated from Bethany Peniel College, receiving his T.H.B. Degree in 1952. He had served as a minister with the Church of the Nazarene for seven years before returning to LA, where he joined the ministry with the Methodist Church. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cushing; a former member of the Cushing Lions Club and he enjoyed working with radios. Surviving include his wife of over 54 years, Donalda of the home; two sons, Donalvin Mayo of the home and Delwyn Mayo of Bethany; one daughter Cindy Jane Freeman and her husband David of Marrero, LA; two sisters, Helen Daigle of CA and Minnie Ruth Sayes of LA; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Claudius A. Mayo and Herman Mayo and one sister Emma Lissa McFillen. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2006 at 2 P.M. in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Ted Uhlig, pastor, and Reverend Harold Johnson, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. © Matherly-Davis Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma Printed With Permission January 2022 July 31, 1932 ~ January 10, 2022 Donalda Jane Mayo was born July 31, 1932, to George Donald and Jane Edith Baldwin in Cushing, Oklahoma. She departed this life January 10, 2022, at the age of 89. She was a 1950 graduate of Cushing High School. On September 28, 1952, Donaldo Jane Baldwin and Seaman Alvin Mayo were united in marriage. From this union were born three children, Donalvin, Delwyn and Cindy. Alvin and Donalda enjoyed fifty-four years of marriage before his passing December 18, 2006. Their ministry allowed them to live in several cities. They moved back to Cushing in 1989 from Bienville, Louisiana. She faithfully attended the First United Methodist Church of Cushing. She enjoyed playing the piano, accordion, and organ in church. She was also an avid reader. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by one son, Delwyn Mayo; one daughter, Cindy Freeman and husband David; one brother, John David Baldwin Sr. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Donalvin Mayo, one brother Roy Baldwin, two sisters Zelda Collins and Leola Miller. A visitation will be held at The Matherly-Davis Family Center Friday, January 21, 2022 from the hours of 4pm to 7pm. Services are scheduled for 2:00pm, Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Fairlawn cemetery. Services are under the direction of Matherly-Davis Funeral Home. |
© Davis Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma Printed With Permission April 2008 January 7, 1954 ~ April 7, 2008 Donalvin Lee Mayo, beloved son and brother, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008 in Fort Supply, Oklahoma. The son of Donalda Jane Baldwin Mayo and the late Seaman Alvin Mayo, Donalvin was born on January 7, 1954 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. He attended schools in Louisiana and graduated from Tioga High School in Tioga, Louisiana in 1972. He was selected to Who’s Who in American High Schools along with being a member of the Beta Club. He attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, receiving his Associate Degree in Printing Technology in 1975. Donalvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cushing. He was always involved in Church services and activities. He was a Bible student and was diligent in his efforts to win people to Christ. He was musically talented; his major instrument was the French Horn, also playing the trumpet, piano and bass guitar. Survivors include his mother, Donalda Mayo of Cushing; one brother Delwyn Mayo of Bethany, OK; one sister, Cindy Mayo Freeman and her husband David of Marrero, LA; several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Seaman Alvin Mayo. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Ted Uhlig and Pastor Harold Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery. |
