Leonard “Red” Hargrove, retired from the City of Cushing Electric Department, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at the age of 82 years.
The son of the late Henry D. Hargrove, Sr., and Helen Mae Sharp Hargrove, Red was born on April 16, 1928 in Cushing, OK and was reared and educated here.
He started to work for the City of Cushing in 1948 and had worked for them for over 40 years, retiring in 1988.
Red was united in marriage to Lois Marie Garner on April 14, 1974, and the couple had lived in Cushing until moving to Hot Springs.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, joining in 1952, later teaching a Sunday School Class.
He was member of the Cushing Masonic Blue Lodge, and a 32nd Degree Mason with his Consistory at Guthrie. He just recently received his 50 year pin from the Masonic Lodge.
Red enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking pictures, playing golf and making all the garage sales.
He also was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Coast Guard.
Survivors include his wife of over 36 years, Lois, of the home; one son, Delbert “Dub” Hargrove and his wife Phyllis of Pryor; three daughters, Diana Simpson and her spouse, Bill Mueller of Perkins, Sharon Vaden and her husband Bill of Cushing and Lyn Duffy and her spouse, Casey Eaton of Owasso; seven grandchildren, Danny Bagwell, R. D. Simpson, Tracy Hutchins, Joe Hargrove, Poppy Payne, Carol Mutz and Tyler Duffy; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Connie Mae Woods of California; his sisters-in-law, Winnie Atwater and her husband Carl, Jerri Sesser, Bonnie Ryan and her spouse Dale Owen and Nikki Crisham and her husband Orville; and other relatives in friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry “Hot” Hargrove, Jr., and Billy Paul Hargrove.
Services will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Vaught officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
The family will greet friends on Saturday, July 10, 2010 from 4:00 – 6:00 in the Floyd Family Center.
