Clarah Catherine Cruzan
March 17, 1913 ~ November 28, 2008


Miss Clarah Catherine Cruzan, daughter of the late Ulysses Grant Cruzan and Mamie Amanda Montgomery Cruzan, passed away Friday, November 28, 2008, in Broken Arrow, OK at the age of 95 years.

She was born on March 17, 1913 in Cushing and was reared and educated here, later attending and graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1941 with her B.S. Degree and in 1942 graduated from the University of Iowa with her Masters Degree.

Clarah was an instructor of Home Economics at Oklahoma State University in 1942 and 1943 and was an instructor of Home Economics Education from 1947 until 1949.

She began her career as a dietitian for Rest Haven Nursing Home in Cushing from 1967 until her retirement in 1991.

Clarah was very involved in this community, having served as secretary of the Cushing Senior Citizen Steering Committee from 1972 until 1991; was the reporter for the Cushing Oklahoma Pioneer Club from 1973 until 1985; the precinct election judge from 1989 until 1994; a member of the AAUW, serving as treasurer for a couple of years and serving as president in 1974-75; a member of the American Dietetic Association; Oklahoma Heritage Association; Iris Garden Club, president 1971-1973; Eastside Garden Club, reporter 1970-1975; a member of the Omicron Nu, Phi Kappa Phi, and was a Presbyterian. She was also a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army, and received a Bronze Star.

She is survived by one sister, Fairah Cruzan Randall of Seattle, WA; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nieces and great-great-nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Orval Cruzan, Ulysses Cruzan and Charles Cruzan.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 11 A.M. in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Clouse, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery
