William E. "Bill" Cook
February 3, 1924 ~ December 11, 2001


William E. Cook, 77, longtime Cushing resident, businessman and civic leader died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, in Oklahoma City.

Services were held at the United Methodist Church, Cushing. Interment was at Fairlawn Cemetery. Funeral services were under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home.

Cook was born February 3, 1924, in Granby, Mo., to Thomas E. and Lesta Goade Cook.

He came to Cushing in 1935 and graduated from Cushing High School in 1941.

He entered the United States Army serving with the 68th Armored Infantry Battalion. Cook was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge December 19, 1944, and returned to Oklahoma.

He graduated from the University of Oklahoma.

Cook married Jeanne Walters June 14, 1947, in Cushing. This union produced three children, Cynthia, Celia and William.

Cook was a local businessman for over 50 years. He sold insurance, appraised real estate and built homes in Cushing. His last business was the Industrial Service Company, in which he traveled all over the world cleaning and reconditioning oil and gas storage tanks for the military and major oil companies. He designed, built and sold his V-Clone separator. He discontinued this operation in 1985. Cook continued to be active in the Cushing area, investing and working for the City of Cushing in many capacities.

He was a longtime member of the First Methodist Church. Cook was a longtime member of the Cushing Rotary Club. He served as Rotary President in 1965-66. He was a member of the Cushing Masonic Lodge 111; a 32nd Degree Mason, Consistory at Guthrie; president of the Cushing Chamber of Commerce in 1971 and this past year.

Cook and his wife were presented with the Community Achievement Award, given annually by the Chamber of Commerce. He served as president of the Cushing High School Alumni Association; five years on the Cushing Board of Education,one year as president; chairperson of the Golden Circle; campaign chairman of the United Way; 12 years on the board of directors for the Cushing Regional Hospital, two of those as chairman; several years on the board of directors for the Physician's Liability Insurance Company; and a longtime member of the Cushing Country Club serving on the board of directors and as a past-president.

Cook was involved with the Downtown Cushing Revitalization Association, which was involved in obtaining the selection of Cushing in the Main Street Foundation. He served as past-president.

Cook enjoyed playing golf and cards with his friends.

He is predeceased by his parents and one infant son, William Walter Cook.

He is survived by his wife of over 54 years of the home; two daughters, Celia Cook Meyers and her husband The Honorable Judge Charles Meyers of Cushing and Cynthia Cook Kinzie and her husband Allen of Mannford; four grandchildren, Alisha Meyers of Edmond, Abby Meyers of Cushing, Jason Cook Kinzie and his wife Erin of Cushing, and Macy Kinzie Hollingshead and her husband Blake of Ft.Smith, Ark.; and other relatives and friends.

February 4, 1924 ~ May 23, 2003


Jeanne Walters Cook, 79, of Cushing, died Friday, May 23, 2003 in Cushing Regional Hospital. Services will be May 27 at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Verlyn Snell, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery.

She was born February 4, 1924 in Cushing to Louis and Dorothy Walters.

She graduated from Cushing High School. She later attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from Stephens College.

She married William E. Cook on June 14, 1947. He preceded her in death after 54 years of marriage on December 12, 2001.

The couple owned several buildings in downtown Cushing. Jeanne Cook operated a bed and bath store called Macy's Collection.

She was a long-time member of of the First United Methodist Church, where she served as president of the United Methodist Women. She was a past member of the Tri-Delta Sorority and served on the House Corporation Board of the Theta Gamma Chapter.

She was very active in Girl Scouts; a member of PEO, D.A.R., the Geographic Club and the Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by two children, Celia Meyers and her husband, Charles, of Cushing and Cynthia Kinzie and her husband, Allen, of Mannford; her grandchildren, Alisha Meyers of Edmond, Abby Meyers of Cushing, Jason Kinzie and his wife, Erin, of Cushing and Macy Kinzie Hollingshead and her husband, Blake, of Tulsa; and many other relatives and friends.

Ronnie E. Cook
October 10, 1937 ~ July 18, 1989


Mr. Ronnie E. Cook, a longtime former Cushing resident, now of Route 1, Mannford, passed away at his residence at the age of 51.

Funeral services were held in the First United Methodist Church in Mannford with Reverend David Cressman, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Cushing with the Davis Funeral Home in charge.

The son of Tom and Dee Cook, Ronnie was born October 10, 1937, at Davenport, Oklahoma, and was reared and educated in the Davenport and Cushing area, graduating from Cushing High School in 1956.

He was united in marriage to Jan Wright and to this union two children were born, Vance and Lisa.

Ronnie worked for Midland Refinery for over 18 years before working for U.O.P. of Chicago, and then working for B.N.I., out of Texas. He worked as a refinery inspector and traveled worldwide.

A member of the Mannford First United Methodist Church he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jan Cook, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Vance and Denice Cook, Mannford; and one daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Ed Risenhoover, of Glencoe. Also surviving are his mother and step-father, Dee and Irvin Flick of Chandler; three brothers, George, Midwest City; Jack, Edmond; and Roy of Cushing. Also two sisters, Daisy Harmon, Scurry, Texas; Sue Franklin, Seagoville, Texas; and one granddaughter, Kaci Cook of Mannford.
