Pamela Sue "Pam" [Smith] Burnett
June 23, 1959 ~ January 8, 2009

Pamela Burnett, retired correctional officer, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009, in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 49 years.

The daughter of Reverend Ronald G. Smith and Carolyn Sue Brumley Smith, Pamela was born on June 23, 1959 in Sapulpa, OK and was reared and educated in Sapulpa and Houston, TX.

She was united in marriage to James Burnett on July 3, 2004 in Independence, MO.

Pamela had worked at the Cimarron Correction Facility for over four years, prior to her retirement due to her health.

She was a very talented painter and musician, excelling in singing and writing plays for the Church.

Pamela loved nature, many days you would see her, camera in hand, taking her casual stroll photographing wildlife through the parks, and she has many “Kodak” moments for her efforts. She especially loved horses. Her passion to both ride, train and do portraits of them never waned. Prior to her illness, she exhibited much of her work and was praised by the appreciative onlookers. Her parents noticed at an early age of only two or three, she would take pencil and notepad and what she drew received raving responses.

She won the first place blue ribbon trophy at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for her exhibit of three Arabian studs, at the age of seventeen. Her latest and final masterpiece is captioned “Wind” and this palomino portrait will always remind us of her passion for these beautiful animals.

Pamela loved Christian music. She sang as a platform soloist in her father’s church in Houston and excelled in quartet groups throughout Texas and Oklahoma. She was a devoted servant of the Lord and her Christian faith never wavered. Her works will always be remembered. Her gifts made room for her to bless many with her talents and we will greatly miss you, Pam.

Survivors include her husband, James Burnett of the home; her parents, Reverend Ronald and Carolyn Smith of Independence, MO; one son, Daniel Stephenson and his wife Brianna of Broken Arrow; two step-sons, Shane Burnett and David Burnett both of Stillwater; one brother, Ron Smith, II, of Independence, MO; four grandchildren; several aunts and uncles, including a special aunt Lota Mae James of Cushing who devoted much care to both Pam & her husband, and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with Reverend Marvin Skinner officiating.

Burial will be held in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to James Burnett c/o Davis Funeral Home.
