Clyde Thomas Brown
March 14, 1919 ~ November 6, 1991


Graveside services were to be held today in Fairlawn Cemetery at Cushing for retired newspaper publisher Clyde Thomas Brown. Brown, 72, died Wednesday.

A native of Clovis, N.M., Brown attended New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell and was a graduate of Wetumka High School.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

He was associated with the Perkins Journal and Stroud American before becoming publisher of the Yale Record, Mannford News and Morris News. He operated Quality Print Shop in Tulsa from 1956 until 1963. He retired from publishing in 1980 and returned to Yale in 1981.

He was a member of the Oklahoma Press Association, National Association of Royalty Owners, American Legion, Rotary Club and Lions Club.

An avid gardener, he spearheaded a program for beautification of Yale, which resulted in new Christmas lights, trees and flower boxes on Main Street and the building of the "tree park," now known as Katy Veterans Park.

Surviving are his wife, Martha; a son, Thomas H. Brown of Highland Park, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard [Lynn] Adsit of Yale; and three grandchildren.

Martha Pat [Evans] Brown
July 16, 1921 ~ July 9, 1996


YALE -- Martha Pat Brown, a retired teacher and newspaper publisher, died in her home Tuesday. She was 74.

Brown and her late husband, Clyde, edited and published weekly newspapers in Perkins, Yale, Mannford and Morris.

Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cushing Fairlawn Cemetery, and arrangements will be handled by Yale-Palmer Funeral Home.

Brown was born July 16, 1921, in Vinita to Lloyd and Sara Evans and attended school in Stillwater. The family moved to Fairfax, where she graduated from high school in 1938.

She received a degree in secondary education in 1942, and later obtained her master's degree in elementary education.

She married Clyde T. Brown on August 15, 1942, at Camp Roberts, Calif.

The Browns began their newspaper career in 1953 in Perkins, and Brown began teaching after that. She retired as a third-grade teacher in 1981 in Morris. The Browns then moved to Yale.

Brown was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association, National Education Association, National Association of Royalty Owners, the Yale Study Club, the Stillwater alumnae chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, and First Church of Christ, Scientist in Stillwater.

She is survived by a son, Thomas H. Brown of Highland Park, Ill.; a daughter, Lynn Adsit of Yale; a sister, Nancy Brumfield of Stillwater; and three brothers, W. Frank Evans of Stillwater, Bob Evans of Inola and William A. Evans of Tucson, Ariz.

Ermalee [Davis] Brown
May 15, 1926 ~ May 22, 2012


Ermalee Brown, a longtime Cushing resident passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the age of 86 years.

Ermalee was born on May 15, 1926 in Cushing, Oklahoma to the late Marvin and Eula [Holland] Davis.

She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia in the Salvation Army. She attended Bible College in Atlanta. Ermalee was a Lt. for the Salvation Army and a Volunteer for the USO.

She married the love of her life James E. Brown on February 5, 1955 in Jackson, Mississippi, to this union James, Patty and Terry were born.

They traveled with his job for many years. They moved to Cushing in 1969 where they made their home.

She became a certified nurse's aide, working for several years at Resthaven and Colonial Plaza.

Her focus was on her family, she was very proud of her grandchildren. She enjoyed socializing with her friends.

Ermalee is survived by her children Patty Bailey and husband Terry, Terry Howard and husband David, James Brown and wife Debbie, sister Charlene Purcer, eight grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.

Ermalee was preceded in death by her husband James Brown, one grandson Jason Brown, siblings: Willard Davis, Clifford Davis, Clyde Maynard, Lily Pack, Billy and Bobby Davis.

Graveside services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, OK and will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing, Oklahoma.

Agatha June [Ryan] Brown
April 26, 1933 ~ March 5, 2006


Agatha [Ryan] Brown, longtime former Cushing resident, now of Norman, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2006 in Norman at the age of 72 years.

The daughter of the late Lawrence V. Ryan and Jessie W. Dryden Ryan, Agatha was born on April 26, 1933 in Yale, OK and was reared and educated in this area, graduating from Norfork High School in 1951.

She was married to Marion Milley Brown on August 8, 1951 in the Advent Christian Church and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1996.

Agatha was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Cushing, where she had been active in the Women’s Group; she served as a Deacon of the Church and had taught Sunday School for several years and had held various offices at the Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and canning, and for many years had been a volunteer for the Cushing Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and loved trying new things.

Survivors include her children, Peggy Louise Page and her husband Robert of Euless, TX, Karen Sue Qualley and her husband Warren of Blanchard, OK, Marion Milley Brown, Jr. of Plano, TX, Brenda June Newton and her husband Rick of Keller, TX, and Mark Allen Brown and his wife Cindy of Benbrook, TX; one sister, Judith Griffis and her husband Robert of Edmond; one brother Dudley Ryan and his wife Annette of Edmond; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. in the First Christian Church with Reverend Larry Haney, pastor, officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Davis Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

Patsy Ruth [Black] Brown
March 23, 1947 ~ July 31, 2023


Patsy Ruth Brown was born March 23, 1947, to Elsie and William Black in Pawnee, Oklahoma.

As a young child her father passed away, which caused some hardship for her mother. Patsy was then adopted by her cousins Lucille and Dawson Brown.

She enjoyed the simple things in life such as getting a hamburger and mountain dew on the way to visit Santa Clause. She also absolutely loved Andes Mints!

Patsy had a loving heart and will be missed by those who knew her.

Patsy had been a resident at Drumright Nursing home since 1986 and received wonderful care during her time there.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors who cared for her while she was there.

She is survived by a nephew, Pete Sawatzky and wife, Kathy, niece, Sue Burns, and husband Jim. She was preceded in death by her birth parents, Elsie and William Black; adopted parents, Lucille and Dawson Brown; two siblings, Charles and Linda Black; sister and brother-in-law, Lula Mae and Pete Sawatzky; and nephew, Jim Sawatzky and his widow, Jackie Zinkan.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00AM, Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Fairlawn Cemetery.
