Lester Littleton "Benny" Benthall
September 27, 1901 ~ April 22, 1988


Funeral services for Mr. Lester L. “Benny” Benthall, 1019 E. 10th, Cushing, were held Monday, April 25, 1988 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Dr. James Reynolds, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Kenneth Fowler, organist, provided the prelude and the postlude including "Because He Lives" and Victory In Jesus."

Serving as casketbearers were: Bob Rosebrough, G.D. Shoumake, Forrest Fuqua, James Meeker, Rusty Hebard, and Gene Hebard.

Honorary casketbearers were all the members of the Drumright and Cushing Masonic Lodges.

Interment followed in the Fairlawn Cemetery with the services under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home, Cushing.

Mr. Benthall passed away early Friday morning, April 22, 1988 in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 86.

The son of the late Louie L. and Mattie [Zernial] Benthall, Benny was born September 27, 1901 in Glen Flora, Tx., and was reared and educated in the same area.

He was united in marriage to Miss Maude O. Chase on Decemeber 24, 1923, in Opelousas, La.

The couple made their first home in Port Arthur, Tx. at this time, living there until 1929 when they came to Drumright. The couple lived in Drumright until 1957, when they moved to Cushing.

Mr. Benthall was an instrument Engineer for various Oil Companies, including Tidewater Oil Co., Standard of New Jersey and Midland Co-Op, in Cushing. He retired in 1967.

Benny was a member of the Drumright Masonic Blue Lodge, holding every office, including Past Master; a 32nd Degree Mason, Consistory at Guthrie and had received his 50 year pin from the Drumright Lodge in April of 1984.

He had been a Demolay Dad for several years; very active as a public servant from announcing all kinds of ball games, rodeos, and etc. and a very ardent fisherman.

Mr. Benthall was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife of over 64 years, Mrs. Maude Benthall of the home; two sons, Lester Benthall Jr. of Cushing and Jack Benthall of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Juanita Hoylman of Broken Arrow; three sisters, Madeline Goldsmith, Rebecca King and Lois Wolfe, all of California; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Lester Littleton Benthall, Jr

Lester Littleton Benthall, Jr, retired electrical contractor, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2007 in Drumright at the age of 79 years.

The son of the late Lester L. Benthall, Sr. and Maude Chase Benthall, Lester was born on July 25, 1927 in Port Arthur, TX.

He moved to Drumright as a small child with his parents and family and attended and graduated from Drumright High School.

Following his honorable discharge from the United States Navy, Lester attended Oklahoma State University, and was later employed at Tidewater Oil Company until its closure in 1955 and at that time becoming a self-employed electrical contractor. He worked on many Cushing residences and commercial buildings and did contract work for a great many oil companies. He loved his profession.

He was united in marriage to Vocille James on June 2, 1950 in Cushing and to this union two daughters, Freda and Cindi were born.

Lester was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder.

He was a member of the Cushing Masonic Lodge #111, 32 Degree Mason with his Consistory at Guthrie; a member of the Akdar Shrine of Tulsa; a member of the VFW and a veteran of World War II; enjoyed playing golf, both water and snow skiing, hunting, fishing, was active in the Boy Scouts, receiving his Eagle Scout Award; camping and boating. He also loved to dance and travel.

He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Vocille Benthall of the home; two daughters, Freda Bradshaw and her husband Rick, and Cindi Benthall both of Edmond; two grandchildren, Jill Frances and her husband Matt of Zurick, Switzerland and Ryan Bradshaw of Edmond; one sister, Nita Hoylman of Oklahoma City; one brother Jack Benthall of South Carolina; several nieces, nephews, cousins as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 2 P.M in the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Tom Stewart, pastor officiating.

Serving as casket bearers will be Richard Wintz, Jon Vaught, Jon Wattenburger, C.L. Sadler, Rick Bradshaw and Ryan Bradshaw. Serving as honorary casket bearers will be Bob Vaught, Ashley Loveland, Bill Williams, Dale Cowley, John Griffeth and Willard Johnston.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, January 23, from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. in the Floyd Family Center, east of the Funeral Home

Vocille "Gigi" [James] Benthall
March 7, 1931 ~ April 27, 2023


Vocille James Benthall passed away April 27, 2023 at the age of 92 in Edmond, Ok.

She was a daughter, sister, wife, Mom, Grandmother and Great-grandmother "GIGI".

She was born on March 7, 1931 in Cushing, OK to Fred and Dollie Holland James.

Graduating from Cushing High School and then attending Draughan 's Business school in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She married her soulmate and love of her life, Lester Benthall in 1950. Together they owned and operated Benthall Electric Company for many years with Vocille keeping the books and accounting.

They welcomed two daughters, Freda Benthall Bradshaw and Cindi Benthall. Lester, Vocille and the girls spent many weekends camping, water skiing with family and friends in the summer and spending time in Colorado in the winter deer hunting and snow skiing.

Vocille was a wonderful seamstress and was always sewing clothes for her daughters and granddaughter. She always had knitting, crocheting or quilt projects. She also loved playing golf and dancing. She loved to travel with a highlight being a trip to Ireland. Vocille was a volunteer at the Cushing hospital for many years and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 60 years making many wonderful friends. After moving to Edmond in 2014 to be near her family the joy of her day was daily visits from her great grandsons. Gigi loved them dearly.

Survivors include daughter Freda [husband Rick] Bradshaw, daughter Cindi Benthall. Granddaughter Jill Magsamen [husband Tyler], Grandson Ryan [wife Chelsea] Bradshaw, Great Grandsons, Hudson, Ben & Duke Magsamen, Brody and Ramsey Bradshaw. Brother In Laws, Jack Benthall and Dale Cowley. Many cousins, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Shirley Cowley.

Funeral service are 2:00pm, Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Matherly-Davis Funeral Chapel with Reverend George Brock III officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Cushing.
