James Garfield Barnett
June 30, 1935 ~ September 26, 2008


James Garfield Barnett, lifelong Cushing resident, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2008 in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 73 years.

The son of the late George Washington Barnett and Berlie Ella McDaniel Barnett, James was born on June 30, 1935 in Cushing and was reared and educated here, graduating from Cushing High School.

He was united in marriage to Janice Eilene Barnett and to this union three sons, James, Charles and Scott, were born. He was later married to Rhonda Daughetery.

James enjoyed fishing, crafts, gardening, playing the guitar and photography.

He had worked for Coke for over 35 years.

Survivors include his three sons, James Barnett of Cushing, Charles Barnett and his wife Diane of Cushing and Scott Barnett and his wife Shelia of Drumright; three sisters, Eunice Michalskie of St. Joseph, MO, Dorthy Broderson of Monterey Park, CA and Darlene Presley of Tulsa; one brother, Bobby Barnett of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Alicia Silva and her husband Bill, Julia Barnett, Andrea Tanner and her husband Joshua, Shannon Barnett, Loren Barnett and Kristen Barnett; one great-granddaughter, Mary Silva; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Lorene Bass, Marie “Sunny” Handing, Mable Stringer, Nola Houtz and Ruth “Goldie” Taviana and three brothers, George Barnett, Jesse Barnett and Doyle Barnet.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with Minister Jonathan Roberson officiating.

Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery.
