Grove, Oklahoma February 4 2009 March 29, 1910 ~ February 4, 2009 Dessie Lenora [Patterson] Barker, age 98, died on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Grove Nursing Center in Grove, Oklahoma. The daughter of Addie and Edna [Boaz] Patterson, Dessie was born on March 29, 1910 in Hedley, Texas. She lived a very active live growing up on a Texas cattle ranch and in southeastern Oklahoma. All of her yearly education was in country schools. Her parents moved to Ripley, Oklahoma where she attended high school. There she met her husband Nollie Barker and they finished school together. They both got jobs upon graduating but in 1931 decided to go to Teaching College in central Edmond, Oklahoma. So, they were married on their way to school in Guthrie, Oklahoma. They taught in Ripley, Coil, Fairland, Wyandotte and in Grove, Oklahoma. After many years of teaching, they had a son Tommy Lee Barker. Retiring in Grove, Oklahoma where they owned operated and lived at Barker's Edgewater Marina and Resort since 1958. Dessie was a member of the First Christian Church of Grove, Oklahoma Dessie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband. She is survived by her son Tommy Lee Barker of Grove, Oklahoma and one brother Leo Patterson of Sacramento California. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 7, 2008 at the Ellis Family Funeral Home Chapel in Grove, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2008 at Fairlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Cushing, Oklahoma with Dr. Wayne Shaw officiating.
