© Palmer Marler Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma Payne and Lincoln Counties August 2009 January 10, 1916 ~ August 28, 2009 Glenora "Susie" Ackley, age 93 a longtime Cushing resident, passed away at her home on Friday evening. Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Monday, August 31, 2009 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing. Rev. Ted Uhlig will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing. Susie was born on January 10, 1916 in Arcadia, Louisiana to the late Joe and Alice Durrett. She attended school in Louisiana, graduating from Louisiana State University with her teaching certificate. Susie was a member of the Louisiana State Alumni for many years. Susie was a true Southern Belle. She taught school until her marriage to Earl Ackley. They lived in Louisiana for a number of years, before making their home in Cushing in 1954. Susie was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Wesley Sunday school class. She was a pink lady volunteer at the Cushing Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Susie also delivered meals of wheels. She was a member of a garden club and DAR. Susie was active with her husband's oil business, Ackley Oil, taking care of the books. She was a O.U. Football fan, watching on TV as often as possible. Susie is survived by her son Steve Ackley of San Francisco, CA, granddaughter Laura Tinsman of Virginia, and various nieces and nephews. She was also survived by her caregivers. Susie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Alice Jo Tinsman, and numerous brothers and sisters. |
