© Davis Funeral Home Cushing, Oklahoma July 2006 January 2, 1949 ~ July 15, 2006 Jim Shields, longtime Cushing Public School employee, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2006 at the age of 57 years. The son of Jimmie "Sarge" Shields and Christine Maxwell Shields, Jim was born on January 2, 1949 in Odessa, TX. He lived in several different places while growing up and at the age of 13 moving to Stillwater where he graduated from Stillwater High School in 1967. He attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University receiving his Bachelors Degree, and later receiving his Masters Degree from Central State University. Jim was united in marriage to Betty McCollum in 1969 and to this union two daughters, Jaime and Stephanie were born. He started his coaching and teaching careers beginning in Cyril, OK and moving on to Frederick and Antlers before coming to Cushing in 1976. While in Cushing, Jim had served as an assistant in football, wrestling and baseball and had taught Algebra until 1982. He currently held the position of Director of School Plant Management and was extremely proud of his staff that he was in charge of on a daily basis. His staff was always willing to do whatever he asked them to do, which is why he enjoyed his job. Jim married Willetta Gaskins on September 19, 1986 in Cushing, and he acquired two sons, Mike and Reggie. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Cushing, OK and was currently a trustee of the Church; a member and past president of the Cushing Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow; a member and past president OSPMA; and a member of the Cushing Country Club serving on the board for several years. Jim was an avid golfer and was proud to wear his ORANGE and BLACK, supporting both the Cushing Tigers and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Survivors include his wife, Willetta of the home; his children, Jaime and Chantz Candler, Stephanie and Mike Czuba, Mike and Aryn Gaskins, and Reggie Gaskins; his father, Jimmie "Sarge" Shields; three brothers, Chris, Keith and Mike Shields, his grandchildren, Caden and Carson Candler, Mackenzie and Mason Mills, Taylor and Patrick Czuba and Ryan Gaskins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cushing High School Auditorium with Reverend Ted Uhlig, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Tom Hudson, Kent Hancock, Jack Hudgins, Clifford Case, Brian Floyd, Rick Page, Steve Flaming and Bill Wade. Burial will follow in the Euchee Valley Memorial Cemetery. |
