Golan James Winkler passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2006 in Tulsa at the age of 88 years.
The son of the late Harry Winkler and Mate Lenora Verch Winkler, Golan was born on October 31, 1917 in Portage Co., Wisconsin and was reared and educated in Wisconsin.
He was united in marriage to Gertrude Cargill on December 23, 1945, during the time he was serving his country in the United States Navy. The couple moved to Cushing following his discharge in 1948, living here until 1964 when they moved to Tulsa. She preceded him in death in March of this year.
Golan was an insurance agent for Met Life for many years, serving his later years as the assistant manager of the office in Tulsa. He also was an ordained minister of the Church of the Brethren and served as pastor of the Bartlesville Church of the Brethren for over 19 years.
For over 25 years Golan served as the Disaster Response Coordinator for the South Plains District of the Church of the Brethren, retiring from that position in June of 1999.
Golan enjoyed fishing, camping, being involved with the Lions Club and volunteering for various groups and organizations.
He is survived by one daughter Janice Winkler of Tulsa; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother Gerald Winkler.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 26, 2006 at 11 A.M. in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren with Reverend John Holderread, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Church Yard Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Big Creek Church of the Brethren (101 N. Brethren Road, Cushing, OK 74023) or to the International Hearing Dog, Inc. (5901 East 89th Av., Henderson CO, 80640) in his memory.
