Gertrude E. Winkler passed away Friday, March 31, 2006 in Tulsa at the age of 87 years.
The daughter of the late John Cargill and Nancy Belle O’Kelley Cargill, Gertrude was born on December 28, 1918 in Cushing and was reared and educated in the Cushing and Drumright Schools, graduating from Drumright High School in 1936. Following High School she attended Business College and also the Hartford Music School.
She was united in marriage to Golan Winkler on December 23, 1945, here in Cushing. The couple had lived in Cushing from 1948 until 1964 when they moved to Tulsa, where she had worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for several years.
She was a member of the Big Creek Church of the Brethren Church; was a longtime member of the Lions Club and had enjoyed the various activities of being a “Lion”. She also enjoyed quilting, singing and playing the piano.
Gertrude is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Golan Winkler of the home in Tulsa; one daughter Janice Winkler of Tulsa; one brother Jerome Cargill of Cushing; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter Phyllis Ruth Winkler and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at 11 A.M. in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren with Reverend John Holderread, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Church Yard Cemetery.
