Phyllis Kinzie, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on June 11, 2010 at the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK.
Fourth child of Chester A. Olwin and Beatrice Yaney Olwin, Phyllis was born on February 7, 1928 in Bartlesville, OK.
She started school in Alluwe, OK and at the age of nine moved to Cushing, graduating from CHS, Class of 1945. She attended McPherson College in McPherson, KS.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Oliver H. Kinzie on December 25, 1945 at the Church of the Brethren, Cushing, OK.
They made their home on the Kinzie homestead west of Cushing and were married for 65 years.
She was a very compassionate person and loved spending time with family.
She was Honorary Chapter Farmer of Cushing FFA; Church of the Brethren National General Board Member; Cushing Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award; member of D.A.R., Geographic Club, 4-H Club and Sunnyside Home Extension, where she held several leadership roles.
Phyllis was a longtime member of the Church of The Brethren where she served sixteen years as choir director and First Baptist Church in Cushing where she taught Sunday School.
Phyllis is survived by loving family members, including Oliver H. Kinzie of the home; three sons, Allen Kinzie and wife Cynthia of Mannford OK, Kent Kinzie and wife Annette of Stillwater and Kris Kinzie and wife Denise of Cushing; one daughter, Sheree’ Fielding and husband Dr. Jeff Fielding of Cushing; ten grandchildren, Jason Kinzie and wife Erin, Macy Hollingshead and husband Blake, Avery Kinzie, Kaid Kinzie, Olivia Porter and husband Matt, Kristopher Kinzie, Amanda Turner and husband Matt, Dr. Jessica Zwanziger and husband Dr. Brian Zwanziger, Dr. Chloe Butts and husband Matt and Dr. Claire Moore and husband Jonathan; five great-grandchildren, Callie & Carsten Kinzie, Cash Porter and Emery & Ella Kate Turner; one sister, Lena Belle Mullen and husband Wilbur; special nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Chester Olwin, Jr. and one sister, Sally Pierce.
Memorial services will be held Monday, June 14, 2010 at 2 P.M. in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Moore, Reverend Marvin Kehl and Reverend John Holderread officiating.
Burial will be in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
Visitation will be in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.
