Virgil Ermon Wilson Sr. passed from this life on September 14, 2022, at the age of 93, at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Virgil was born on October 21, 1928, in Quay, Oklahoma; he was the son of William McKenzie and Delia Florence (Compton) Wilson. Virgil attended school in Yale, Oklahoma, and later graduated from Pawnee High School. On February 4, 1949, Virgil was united in marriage to Geraldine Faye Leigh establishing their home in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Virgil soon traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, and gained employment with Halliburton Services. Virgil worked throughout the Southern United States until he was transferred overseas. During his time overseas, Virgil worked in the following countries Venezuela, Iran, England, Ireland, and Scotland. During his time in England following the death of Gerry, Virgil met Wendy Helen Wood. On February 3, 1973, Virgil and Wendy were united in marriage in Great Yarmouth, England. In 1986 after 40 years, Virgil retired as sales manager from Halliburton Services and returned to reside in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Virgil enjoyed playing golf, boating as well as reading. Some of his favorites to read were history books and watching the History Channel.
Survivors are his wife Wendy, six children, Deborah L Hinz and husband Sherman, Virgil E. Wilson Jr. and wife Cindy, Anita G. Parish and husband Rockne, Teresa A. Calhoun and husband Rory, Bruce A Wilson and his wife Melissa, Jonathon J. Wilson; fifteen grandchildren, thirty great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, William and Delia Wilson, wife Gerry Wilson; brother Vernon P Wilson; two grandchildren, Marlow Hinz, and Kennedy Boese.
Services will be held later in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Friends and family may visit Virgil's online guest book and memorial page at www.chapman-black.com.
