Emily Ann (Williams) Herring

Emily Ann Williams Herring was born on October 25, 1927, in Joplin, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Cornelius and Annie D. (Johnson) Williams. Emily grew up in Houston until August of 1942; her father was later transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Emily attended Central High School in Tulsa, graduating with the Class of 1945. In September of 1946, she attended Joplin Jr. College and the following year returned to Tulsa. Emily gained employment at the Oil and Gas Journal working in the circulation department. On August 18, 1951, Emily was united in marriage to Frank Dan Herring in Tulsa at the First Christian Church. Emily later joined Frank once he was transferred to Shreveport, Louisiana then later they moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana. In October of 1953, the couple was transferred to San Antonio, Texas; upon his discharge in 1954, they moved to Reading, Pennsylvania. In 1955, Emily and Frank returned to Tulsa. In August of 1966, Emily moved to Cleveland. Later in 1967, she accepted employment with Osage Oil and Transportation. After 19 years with Osage Oil and a downturn in the oil industry, Emily started working at Hissom Memorial Center, retiring in 1993.

Emily grew up in a happy Christian home attending the Christian Church her entire life; baptized in Houston, Texas, at a young age. She always loved traveling and has traveled to nearly every state in the Union and Canada. Emily always loved spending time at historical sites learning about history. Emily was also a longtime Sunday School teacher.

Emily went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home.

Survivors include her son John Herring of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Michelle Hughes, Michael Allen, Matthew Herring, Jeremiah Herring; great grandchildren Robert, Jr. Allison, Dayci, Corbin, Krysten, Peyton and Aiden as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Constance Allen, siblings Charles, Williams, Robert Williams, Richard Williams, and a grandson Travis Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the First Christian Church, with David Logsdon officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. An online obituary and condolence page for Emily will be at www.chapman-black.com.
