Henry Lee Elledge, 79, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 25, 2018, while surrounded by his family.
Henry was born on June 1, 1939, in Cleveland, Oklahoma. He was the son of Mose and Floy (Thompson) Elledge. Henry grew up and attended school in Cleveland. During his time in school, Henry was active in football. Henry later joined the U.S. Navy in 1956. During his time in the Navy, Henry was stationed aboard the USS Ponchatoula. The ship remained in the Pacific Ocean for the time he was aboard. Henry returned to the Cleveland in 1960 following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy. On May 13, 1961, he was united in marriage to Shirley June Iness in Hominy, Oklahoma. Henry and Shirley made their home in Cleveland where they raised their family. Henry returned and worked at Fluor Daniels in Tulsa for several years. Following the death of his brother, Henry operated Elledge Music Company until the mid-1970s. They had many coin-operated jukeboxes throughout the area. Henry then began working at Dick Connors Correctional Facility in Hominy retiring in 1999.
Henry had many hobbies some of the included hunting, fishing, watching sports, and he liked to cook and was good at it. Henry was a gifted duck decoy painter and built many duck blinds. He was an avid Cardinal and Oklahoma Sooner fan. Henry loved coaching baseball as Monty and Parker were growing up. Henry and Shirley would take trips to the Kiamichi Mountains, and to see his shipmates that were aboard the USS Ponchatoula. They would also take yearly trips for the ship's reunions and his most memorable time was to Louisiana when the USS Ponchatoula was retired and donated the ships bell to the town of Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Henry was a loving person and loved his family and friends greatly. He was also very humorous and loved telling jokes and gigging someone when possible.
Survivors include his wife of over 57 years Shirley of the home; three children Montgomery Elledge and wife Janie of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Julie Buckland and husband Lance of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Whitney Bartley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Megan "Pagan Megan" and husband Cale, Jordan "Jordain", Parker "Raymond", Rochelle "Shellbell", Abby "Aberdale", Enoch "Enok", and great grandchildren Addison "Sweet Adeline", Cason, Savannah and numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his brother Richard Elledge.
Services will be held at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located in Cleveland, Oklahoma at 11:00 am, Friday, January 4, 2019, with Father Desmond Ibeneme presiding. Entombment of the cremated remains will be held at a later date in the Woodland Cemetery at Cleveland, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
