We are sad to announce the death of George Elton Howell, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, who passed away on October 27th, 2022 in Stillwater, Oklahoma after a lengthy illness. George was 86 years old.
George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years, Patricia; children: Edward, Birdie, George Jr., Kenneth; 9 grandchildren, and sister Sherrie; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
George was preceded in death by his mother Thelma, and father George, sister: Sarah, Hazel, Barbra; and daughter Thella.
George will also be dearly missed by his friends at the Southern Straight Dancers, where George was a champion dancer and given may awards for his dancing.
George Elton Howell was a veteran of the United States Air Force. George graduated from Westminster College with a Bachelor of Science Degree, and obtained a Master of Social Work for the University of Utah. George was the former nationally elected President of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma for 6 years. George's generous sense of humor and congenial nature made him loved by everyone he touched.
George worked as a CEO for the Indian Health Services for many years. George was well known throughout Indian country with his many activities as a dancer and a Master of Ceremonies at numerous Powwow's. George was proud of his Pawnee and Cheyenne heritage.
The journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take.
There will be a wake on Sunday, October 30th, 2022 at 7:00pm at the Roundhouse in Pawnee, Oklahoma. A Celebration of George's Life will be held Monday, October 31st, 2022, at 10:00am at the Roundhouse.
