Cherilynn Mae Johnson, known to many as "Sugar," passed from this life on March 3, 2023, at her home in Cleveland at the age of 66.
Cheri was born on February 8, 1957, in Ankara, Turkey, the daughter of Ronald Lynn and Betty Louise (Hart) Smith. Cheri grew up in many places settling with her mother in Turley and graduating from McLain High School. She later attended OSU Okmulgee and then transferred to Rogers State College in Claremore, where she obtained her Registered Nursing degree. Cheri worked as a phlebotomist and a certified medical assistant in Okmulgee before graduating with her nursing degree. She has worked at St. Francis Hospital in the Emergency Room, Geriatrics ward at St. Johns, and last worked at the Hillcrest Medical Center in the facility's med-surg unit, retiring in 2012. The couple spent their honeymoon in Tunica, Mississippi, before returning to Tulsa where they made their initial home. In 2008, Cheri and Larry moved to their current home in Cleveland.
Cheri loved traveling with Larry, and they took numerous trips, cruises, and short-day trips. Cheri loved being around her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She always loved talking and hearing about them as much as she could, which would inevitably bring a smile and make her laugh. Watching movies and television were past times for Cheri and Larry in the evenings. Cheri is described as a sweet, compassionate, and caring person. She was also very loving, funny, and always loved to laugh.
Survivors are her husband, Larry, of the home; five children, Shelly Luttrell, Crystal Burks, Timothy Johnson, Cheryl Bingham-Johnson, Tina Neal; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and her pet Chihuahua Baby Dallas who she adored. In addition to her parents, Cherilynn was preceded in death by her sister Ronna Burnett and brother Eugene Smith.
