Oma June Teichmer (“June”) was born April 14, 1929, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Leo Marcellus and Vada Love Ditto Hise. June was taken to her Heavenly home by our Savior Lord Jesus Christ on January 17, 2022. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and under the care of Humanity Hospice.
June was preceded in death by her husband “Bill” Teichmer, son, Larry Teichmer, twin sister, Jean Kimball, and son-in-law, Richard Wyler. She was also preceded in death by her parents and six additional siblings.
She is survived by daughter, Sonja Cole and husband Howard of Tonkawa, granddaughter Sophia Wyler of Tonkawa, and grandson Richard Wyler, Jr. of the home. She is also survived by granddaughter Dominque Teichmer-Bahr, two great-granddaughters and daughter-in-law, Terry Teichmer, all of Indiana. He attended St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated as Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1951. He began his practice in Chickasha, Oklahoma, that same year and continued until March of this year.
June graduated from Ponca City High School in 1948, and married Bill on October 3 the same year. They made their home in the Osage near Ponca City. They later moved to a country home 4 miles from Ralston. During the nearly 40 years she spent with Bill, they entertained many friends at their riverside campground on the bank of the Arkansas River west of Ralston. Many fish fries and overnights were spent by friends as they drove down past the house and were welcome to use the camping spot at any time.
June spent many years teaching private piano lessons in the Ponca City area. She, and her twin sister Jean, took several years of classical piano training from Dean Burg at the University of Oklahoma and presented their concert recital under Dean Burg at the Ponca City Library. They both played classical compositions, presenting individually and at twin pianos. June also served as church pianist for Masham Baptist Church, southwest of Ralston. June and Jean also played violin.
June and Jean were inseparable through their lives together. They ventured to art shows in the state and took several trips to Colorado to exhibit their paintings in Colorado Springs. June worked in oil, acrylics, water color and water oils. She won many ribbons, including Best of Show more than once, at the various art shows and competitions. She was well-known at the Ponca City Art Center, where she taught occasionally.
June and Jean played bingo often. June was an avid reader, of literature and poetry, and would often recite poetry she found beautiful. June worked cross-word puzzles until her eyesight made it difficult. She enjoyed football games and was a serious football fan, OU was her favorite team.
June was loving, caring, generous, and a very sweet grandmother. She loved her family and friends, and also had a great love for the family cats, and will be missed greatly by Oliver, who loved to lay with her and snuggle. She loved to play cards, and played pitch for many years with friends. June had a rich full life with her love of painting, music, literature, family and friends. She will be greatly missed and always loved.
