Vera "Nene" Lyons Thayer was born on May 22, 1968, in Pawnee, OK to Horace Victor Lyons, Sr., and Marcella Lucille Smith Lyons. She passed from this life on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at her home in Pawnee, OK, having reached the age of 51yrs, 10mo, and 24 days. She was a lifelong resident of Pawnee. She met the love of her life, Alan Thayer in May, 2009.
Vera is survived by her companion Alan Thayer of Pawnee, OK, five sons, and one daughter; Justin Springer, Pawhuska, OK, Joe Springer, Lawrence, KS, Jacy Springer, Norman, OK, Chebon Long and Bryan Long of Okmulgee, OK and Chris Thayer of Perry, OK. Four grandchildren; Nokose Springer, Gracie Springer, Briseis and Sibylla Thayer. She is survived by 3 sisters; Vicki and Lucian Larney of Seminole, OK, Andrea (Tweetie) Bowen of Pawnee, OK, Denise and Alvin Moore, Sr. of Red Rock, OK, 5 brothers; Horace Victor Lyons, Jr., Scott Lyons, John Lyons, and Keith Lyons, all of Pawnee, OK and Dana Lyons, of Arlington, TX. Plus numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Vera was an avid OU fan and loved to cheer on the Dallas Cowboys. She was the type of person who made time for others and especially enjoyed cooking in her kitchen. Friends and family loved her fried chicken and meatpies. She was content to be a gracious homemaker.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents Horace and Marcella Lyons, her maternal grandmother, Manuella Goodchief EchoHawk, and paternal grandparents, John and Mary Irving-Lyons. She was a member of the Pawnee Nation of OK and she was from the Skidi and Kitkahaki bands. She was also a member of the Pawnee Indian Baptist Church.
