Ramona Little Eagle Osborne, Age 92, of McLean, Virginia, passed away October 25th, 2024.
Ramona was born July 7th, 1932, to her parents, Samuel Osborne and Abby (Effie) Little Eagle Osborne. Ramona was a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ whom she shared with her family and friends at every given chance. Ramona was a proud full blood member of the Pawnee Nation of the Chaui Band, who enjoyed coming home and attending the dances and doings and visiting with family and friends. Ramona earned two degrees, including a Master Of Education. Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) honored her with receipt of the "Profile in Excellence" award given to alumni "who has demonstrated recognizable accomplishment in his or her profession business advocation or life service in such a way as to bring pride and honor to the University."
Her first job out of college was the girls Physical Education director at Chilocco Indian School with subsequent teaching and coaching positions at Tucumcari, NM, Oilton, OK, Jennings, OK, and Charles Page High School in Sand Springs. As a true educator and her love of the Pawnee Tribe, she conducted her own Pawnee history research and enjoyed sharing that knowledge with her family, especially her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
She accepted a position with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Central Office in Washington D.C. and made her lifetime home in McLean, Virginia. After retirement she established the consulting group of Little Eagle and Associates and the Morning Star Foundation. As an accomplished technical writer, she developed many grants for the Tribe and worked with both the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University to provide technical services and building plans to renovate the Boys and GIrls Dorms of the Indian School. These projects were left with the Tribe. She also worked to put certain sites on the Pawnee Tribal campus on the National Register of Historic Places.
Ramona is preceded in death by her brothers, Roland, and Gerald Osborne, and sisters Pearl Osborne Nuttle, and Minnie Osborne Fields. She is survived by her sister, Mattie Osborne Fish, life long friends Debbie Carter, and Shani Amago, and many nieces and nephews.
