Elmer Eugene Fish passed away on Sunday February 14, 2021 at the age of 85. Elmer was born in Dustin, Oklahoma to George Jay Fish and Beatrice Chisholm Fish. Elmer attended elementary school in Weleetka, Euchee Boarding School in Sapulpa, Jones Academy in Hartshorne, and Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah. At Sequoyah Elmer played basketball and football. Elmer later coached the junior high school teams. For many years Elmer played independent basketball, including many years in the Oklahoma City and Dallas All Indian tournaments. Elmer graduated from Sequoyah in 1954. He then attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He received his B.S. Degree from Northeastern in 1958, then served his country in the United States Army at Ft. Carson, Colorado and Ft. Lewis, Washington.
After discharge in 1960 he returned to Tulsa to live. Elmer married Mattie Osborne on March 24, 1961. From this marriage, two sons, Roger of Tulsa and Ashley of Sand Springs. Elmer was employed with CE-Natco for 23 years retiring in 1982. He was employed with Dupont/Aldyl-Uponor until his retirement in 1997.
Elmer raised and taught Roger and Ashley the same love he had for fishing and hunting. Elmer coached both of his boys the sport of baseball, football, and basketball. Roger and Ashley both learned the value of family ties and the traditions of Pawnee and Creek cultures. Elmer and Mattie loved to go to as many sporting events to watch their grandkids play soccer, wrestling, softball, and basketball. His grandkids include Lacey Fish, Riley Weir, Raley Fish, Sammie Fish, and Rollin Fish.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, sister Laverne Norris and brothers Stanley Fish and Louis Fish, and daughter in law Wendy Fish.
He is survived by wife Mattie and son Roger, brothers Curtis Fish and Victor Fish. His final resting place will be at the North Indian Cemetery, Pawnee Ok.
