Larry Paul Muse

Larry Paul Muse, 60, passed from this life on February 1, 2020, in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Born on August 10, 1959, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Larry is the son of Billy Ray and Orvetta Alaska (Gray) Muse. He grew up in Tulsa, attending Tulsa Public Schools. In Junior High, Larry played Alto Saxophone in the band. He was one of the youngest members of the Tulsa Philharmonic Choir. Larry graduated from East Central High with the class of 1977. After graduation, Larry enrolled at the University of Texas – Pan-American. While there, he began working for Lopez-Riggens Elementary School in Los Fresnos, Texas. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts Education, Larry enrolled at a Linguistics School in Edinburg, Texas. After graduation, Larry’s first job was teaching at First Baptist School in Brownsville, Texas. In 1995, Larry accepted a position for the Dallas Independent School District, retiring in 2017 after more than 20 years.

In his spare time, Larry loved to travel, read, and cook. Larry had a love for the culture of Mexico, going there frequently, taking the train down to Mexico City. When cooking, most of his recipes were from Mexican cuisine, and often spicy. In addition to Mexico, Larry traveled Europe with his dear friend, David Vickers. At home, Larry loved to garden, keeping many beautiful flowers around the home. Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Tchaikovsky, as well as other classical selections, were frequently played in Larry’s home. Earlier in life, Larry took piano lessons, becoming an accomplished pianist as he became older.

Larry is survived by his mother, Orvetta Muse of Jennings, Oklahoma; brothers, Howard Muse and his wife Helen of Jennings, Oklahoma, and David Muse and his wife Jeanie of Mexico, Missouri; sister-in-law, Janine Tudor of Harlingen, Texas; Nephews, Casey Muse and wife Denea, Stephen Muse and his wife Brenda, Daniel Muse and his wife Vanessa; Niece, Johnnie Jeffers, and husband Julius; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Preceding in death are his father, Billy Ray, his brother Stephen Muse, nephew Gabriel Muse and grandparents.

Services for Larry will be held Friday, February 7, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Grace Gospel Church in Jennings, Oklahoma. Pastor Casey Muse, along with Bill and Mary Fitzer will officiate the service. Services are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma. An online guestbook is available at www.chapman-black.com
