Services for Betty Joan Brady will be held 11:00 am, September 8, 2020, at the Church of Christ in Yale, Oklahoma. Pastor Bobby Hill will be officiating the services. Burial will be held at a later date in the Jennings Cemetery. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Joan was born on September 18, 1938, in Terlton, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of James Thomas and Mamie (Jones) Sparks. Joan grew up and attended school in Jennings, Oklahoma, later graduating with the Class of 1956. This was the last Senior class to graduate from Jennings schools. Joan soon moved to Tulsa with her sister Minnie. Jerry and Joan were united in marriage on November 26, 1958. After Jerry was discharged from the Marine Corps, they established their initial home in Tulsa and Joan worked for American National Insurance. In 1962, Joan and Jerry built their current home in Jennings, where they have continued to reside. Joan worked for IEC before accepting a position with the bank in Yale. In the late 1970’s, Joan began working for Getty Oil in Tulsa, Oklahoma which later became Texaco before she retired in the mid 1990’s.
Camping and traveling were something Joan and Jerry enjoyed. They have traveled throughout the United States as well as into parts of Canada. They liked going to Bluegrass Festivals which was always a favorite event for them to attend. Joan and Jerry worked as gate attendants at Salt Creek and Mannford Ramp for several years. Joan has been a longtime member of the Church of Christ.
Joan passed from this life on September 1, 2020, at the age of 81 at her home in Jennings, Oklahoma.
Survivors include her husband Jerry of the home; two sons Jerry Brady II and his wife Kim of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Scott Brady of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one grandson Ryan Brady of Choctaw, Oklahoma, one great grandson Kayden Brady of Owasso, Oklahoma as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; ten siblings, Clarence Sparks, Clyde Sparks, Glen Sparks, Lester Sparks, Doug Sparks, Joe Sparks, Ken Sparks, Dale Sparks and Minnie B Vantrees, Orville Sparks, and a great grandson, Kylar Brady.
