Norma Jean Young was born November 28, 1931 in Masham, Oklahoma to Floyd and Irene (Kistler) McKill. She passed from this life on January 5, 2023, after a brief illness at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 8 days.
Norma Jean was raised in the Blackburn area and attended Blackburn Schools graduating from Blackburn High School in 1949. She worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in Pawnee for a brief period.
She married Raymond Young on December 6, 1952, at the original First Baptist Church in Blackburn, Oklahoma. The ceremony was officiated by Raymond's father, Reverend Waldo Young. They made their home west of Blackburn on their homestead. They were married 61 years at the time of Raymond's passing. Norma Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blackburn for many years, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and assisted with Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed being a full-time wife and mother, raising cattle and visiting with neighbors. She loved the Lord, her family, her church and her community.
Norma Jean is survived by a son, Ronnie Young and wife Valerie of Pawnee, OK, a daughter, Janice Ward and husband Tommy of Blackburn, OK, 4 grandsons, Greg (Megann) Young of Lindsay, OK, Adam (Shana) Young of Edmond, OK, Allan (Katherine) Young of Stillwater, OK, Joseph Ward of Blackburn, OK, 6 great-grandchildren, one niece, Callie McKill of Stillwater, OK and one great niece, Ridley.
Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Irene McKill, brother and sister-in-law Morris and Claudie McKill, infant brother Jimmie and husband, Raymond Young. Services are Monday, January 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Blackburn, Oklahoma with the Reverend Billy Bob Fuller officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, Pawnee, Oklahoma.
