On January 11, 2021 Loris was called home to be with the Lord and see his heavenly family. He will forever be our guardian angel. Loris J Peckenpaugh was born on May 18, 1946 in Pawnee, OK. He was the first born of Guy Loris (Buster) Peckenpaugh and Neva June Hayter Peckenpaugh. He attended and graduated from Ralston High School with the Class of 1965. Following graduation he joined the National Guard.
Loris married Shirley Lynn Hughes on April 12, 1968. They were married for 52 years and made their home in Skedee, Ok which is where they raised their family and also built their family farm. Farming and family was life to Loris. Loris and his cousin, Carl Funkhouser, owned and operated Skedee Oil Company for 7 years in downtown Skedee, Ok. He worked for Rural Water District #4 for over 35 years in addition to farming. He worked with Johnny Roe and JR Weaver at RWD#4. He enjoyed aggravating both of them and they all passed their time picking on one another. Loris served on the Indian Electric Cooperative Board for 26 years. He thoroughly enjoyed his service to the community and serving with the other board members. He considered IEC another part of the family. Loris also served on the Ralston School Board and the Pawnee County Fair Board.
Born and raised on a farm himself, it was in his blood and he loved it. In the beginning years of the farm he raised hogs and over the years he and his wife raised sheep and cattle as well. He also farmed the land and took great pride in his alfalfa square bales. It was never uncommon for Shirley to wake up in the middle of the night and Loris would still be in the hay field. Driving a tractor and taking care of the cows were some of his favorite past times.
Trey, Tallie and Levi may have been Loris’ favorite accomplishments. He thought whatever they did was fine. He tried to follow them in whatever they were doing. Whether baseball, football or basketball you would always see Peck along the sidelines somewhere.
Loris never met a stranger. When asked how he was doing, his response was always “Bright Eyed & Bushytailed” and most generally followed by “I got a question for ya?” He always had a story to tell and a laugh to share. You always knew when Peck was up to something when you seen the twinkle in his eyes.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his grandson, Holden Lee Peckenpaugh.
Survivors include his wife at home on the farm, Shirley Peckenpaugh. Daughter-Sharla VanWinkle and husband Cal of Skedee, Ok. Son-Loris Lee Peckenpaugh and wife Mary of Skedee, Ok.
