As we go to press we hear of the death of Charles Meeker, a long time resident of Pawnee. Mr. Meeker passed away Wednesday.
Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at the First Christian Church in this city for Charles C. Meeker, prominent farmer and pioneer of this community who passed away earlier this week He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away only a few weeks ago. The services were conducted by Rev. A. J. Bradshaw. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Charles Calvin Meeker was born in Adair County, Missouri, Nov. 15, 1858. He passed from this life on Jan. 17, 1940, having reached the age of 81 years, two months and 2 days. He had been in failing health for several years.
On Jan. 2nd, 1887 he was united in marriage to Miss Elsie Amelia Aldridge at Wilmathville, Mo. To this union 11 children were born, four of whom preceded him in death, his wife, Mrs. Elsie Amelia Meeker, preceded him in death, having passed from life two months ago Nov. 19, 1939.
There are seven children left to mourn the departure of a father. They are Martin A. Meeker of Amarillo, Texas; Chas. E. Meeker, of Tulsa, Okla.; O. E. Meeker of Cushing, Okla.; Walter D. Meeker and Boyd L. Meeker of Pawnee, Okla.; Mrs. Leroy Griesel of Pawnee, Okla., and Mrs. George Wisley of El Dorado, Kansas.
Two brothers, James A. Meeker of Gibbs, Mo., and Thomas O. Meeker of Delta, Colorado.
Twenty-three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, other more distant relatives and many friends.
Mr. Meeker came to Oklahoma in the year 1898 settling in Pawnee County, and has resided in this county since that time with the exception of one year spent in the State of Missouri.
Mr. Meeker has been a member of the Christian Church for many years, holding membership at the time of his death in the First Christian Church of Pawnee.
Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church in Pawnee by A. J. Bradshaw on Jan. 19, 1940. The quartet composed of Mr. Louis Lemert, Mrs. W. C. Williams, Mr. Dan Bayhylle and Mrs. Merle Cannon, Mrs. A. T. Seevers, Organist furnished the music. The body rests in the Highland Cemetery Pawnee, Okla.
