Wanda Lucille (Swanson) Johnston

 February 5, 1932 ~ January 20, 2017

Wanda Lucille Johnston, age 84 of Ponca City, OK passed away January 20, 2017 at 6:32 pm at Alliance Health Ponca City Hospital.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Highland Cemetery in Pawnee, OK under the direction of the Grace Memorial Chapel.

Visitation hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 23, 2017 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Grace Memorial Chapel. Friends may leave online condolences at www.gracememorialchapel.net.

Wanda Lucille Johnston was born February 5, 1932 in Jennings, OK to Carl John and Bessie Myrtle (Skinner) Swanson. She grew up in the Maramec, OK area where she attended school. Later in life she obtained her GED.

Wanda was married three times during her 84 years of life. She was married to William (Bill) McKinney in 1950 that ended in divorce in 1974. She then married Jimmie Johnston in 1975. Jimmie preceded her in death in 1980. She then would marry for the last time to Glendon Yarber in 1981 to end in divorce in 1987.

Wanda loved to bake/cook, crochet, knit, sew, quilt, paint, ceramics, fish, bird watch and garden. She had many employment adventures. Some of these include doing sewing alterations on the Army base in Fairbanks, Alaska, working as a short order cook in the Silver Moon Café, being a nurse aide and ward clerk in Fairfax Memorial Hospital, being a librarian, a secretary at Pawnee County Health Dept. and making period correct clothing for the Pawnee Bill Museum.

Survivors include three daughters, Sheryl Caffey of Oolagah, OK, Cami McKinney of Broken Arrow, OK and Kelley McConnell and husband Robert of Ponca City, OK; two Brothers, Charles Swanson and wife Sarah, Kenneth Swanson and wife Jenny of Prattville, OK; one Sister, Barbara Swanson of Pawnee, OK; 4 Grandchildren, Gail Chitwood and fiancé Cody Lee of Evansville, Arkansas; Carl Storm of Ponca City, OK; Jais McKinney of Broken Arrow, OK; Apryl Moore and husband Adam of Ponca City, OK; 4 great-grandchildren, Sheryl Marie Frank and husband Chase of Altus, OK, Zachary Chitwood of Evansville, AR, Lynna Storm of Ponca City, OK and Lila Moore of Ponca City, OK; 2 Great-great Grandchildren, Timothy Chase and Bobby Wayne Frank; 5 Nephews, Rodney and Ricky Dilbeck, Brandon Swanson, Kenneth Swanson, Jr and Eric Swanson. She was also survived by numerous family and friends that loved her.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents.
