Del Bert Lee George

Del Bert Lee George was born on Feb. 13, 1936, near Lahoma to Thomas Arthur and Jennie Sue Mae Haggard George. He passed from this life on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, in Tulsa, surrounded by his family.

He grew up in Red Rock and graduated from Red Rock High School n 1954. It was there that he met his lifelong sweetheart, Myrna Jeannine Sullins and they married July 2, 1955, in Red Rock First Christian Church. After graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1960, the couple moved to Hinton where he taught woodworking and coached. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1961, where he taught woodworking in the public school system for 12 years. In 1973 he retired from teaching and went into full-time carpentry. In 1979 they moved to Pawnee, where he helped to construct the Pawnee IGA which opened in 1979. As one of the founders, he enjoyed managing the Pawnee IGA and visiting with the people of Pawnee for 31 years.

A loyal and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Del Bert enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling to Branson, attending OSU sporting events, and playing dominos with his family (somehow he always managed to win). Del Bert attended First Assembly of God Church in Pawnee.

Del Bert is survived by his wife, Myrna George of Pawnee; two sons, Duane George and his wife Sandy of Broken Arrow and Kevin George and his wife Lois of Pawnee; daughter, Lisa Scott and her husband Matt of Bixby; 10 grandchildren, Chris George, John George and Josh Brownfield of Tulsa, Autom Meadors, Greg George and Sara Felton, all of Pawnee, Austin and Braden Scott of Bixby, Donna Robbins of Morrison, and Minnie Hart of Fort Worth, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and many friends.

Del Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and "Mae" George; brothers, Loyal and Dell Ray George; and his sister, Geneva George.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at First Assembly of God Church in Pawnee with Pastor James Eubanks officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Pawnee under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home.
