Earnest Lee Dollarhide

August 11, 1936 ~ July 1, 2020

Ernest Lee Dollarhide passed away Wednesday July 1, 2020 in Stillwater, OK. He was born in Pawnee, OK August 11, 1936. He was the son of Fern (Waggoner) Dollarhide and Glenn Dollarhide. Lee was the oldest of three boys. Lee and his family lived in Morrison, Ok where he graduated high school in 1955.

Lee worked at the Palace grocery store in Fairfax where he met the love of his life, Wanda Ream. Lee and Wanda married on January 11, 1958 and later had two daughters, LeAnn and Vicki.

Lee started his life work as a butcher at a young age and quickly became known for his expertise in cutting meat. He was wanted by many meat markets in surrounding towns, but ultimately Lee decided that IGA grocery store in Pawnee, OK was the workplace he wanted to call home. He retired as a meat market manager in 1996.

Lee and his wife, Wanda, both loved to travel and owned a travel trailer that was like a second home. They spent much of the summer on the road. They belonged to the Good Sam’s Club and took great delight in being involved with other campers who quickly became family to them. Lee especially loved trout fishing, the mountains, and visiting Colorado.

Lee will always be remembered as an unspeakably patient, kind, ornery man with a great sense of humor. Lee was a quiet man, but his silence could speak volumes. The warmth of his smile, the strength of his hugs, the gentleness of his hands, and the nod of his approval for a job well done said enough.

A humble man; he never liked to be the center of attention. In life and now in death, he wouldn't want us to focus on him. He wouldn't want us to focus on the sadness, but instead the happiness of the joy he brought to our lives. Even as he suffered from Parkinson's Disease he continued to focus on the happiness in his life. His selflessness was an inspiration to all.

His illness may have taken him from us sooner, but it will never rob us of his memory- Even if it’s just quiet moments in the kitchen, drives around the lake, singing his favorite songs, advice about fishing or bargains, or belly laughs in the chair; the moments will always hold an honored place in our memories that will stay with us forever. His quiet wisdom will be greatly missed.

A man as humble and loving as Lee will always be remembered by those of us who knew him and loved him. Although we will miss him, the twinkle in his eye, his smile, his pranks, his love, we will take consolation in the good feelings of our memories.

His guidance and love will carry us through the rest of our days.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Fern Dollarhide; sibling Rusty Dollarhide; spouse Wanda Dollarhide. He is survived by his brother Jim Dollarhide, children and spouses; LeAnn (Tom) Labron, Morrison, Ok, Vicki (Don) Knecht, Emory, TX; grandchildren; Justin Knecht and family of San Antonio, TX, JC Knecht of Los Alamos, NM, Kailee Holmes and family of Stillwater, OK, Hailee LaBron of Stillwater, OK, Whitney Knecht of Emory, TX; great grandchildren; Elaina, Easton, Jacobi, Brooks, and Lariat; and numerous nieces and nephews.
