Funeral Services for John Evan Dick, 86, of Sperry, were held Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Sperry United Pentecostal Church in Sperry, OK. The Reverend Kevin Erickson and Reverend Gary Howard officiated and burial was in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket Bearers were Tunney Livengood, Tommie Johnson, Terry Dick, Stevie Johns, Steve Jones, and Gary Sowers. Honorary Casket Bearers were Carl Johnson, and Gene Livengood, Marvin Pece, Jack Taylor, and Jim Goekler. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
John was born March 22, 1927 in Tulsa, OK to John and Josephine “Josie” (Chap) Dick. He passed from this life January 6, 2014 in Sperry, OK.
John was the oldest of two brothers. He attended Central High School, graduating in 1945. As a child, he loved to build crystal radios and tinker with electronics. John enlisted in the Navy immediately after high school, where he continued to pursue his love of electronics. After his service in the Navy as a radio and radar repair technician, John began his career in the private sector working for Bill White Chevrolet, installing car radios. He then continued on to repairing radios for what he called the “old S-N-S radio” John then sold radios for Marsuco, and worked as a television repairman for Bob Rinker. Finally, he spent his last working years at Radio Inc. where he retired. John enjoyed camping and fishing, had a great passion for the Boy Scouts, and served as a scout leader for many years. Of course, we cannot forget to mention his love for frogs. John was a longtime member of Sperry United Pentecostal Church in Sperry.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Dick of the home; son, Terry Dick and wife Karen of Owasso; daughters, Cindy Taylor and husband Jack of Sallisaw, and Linda Pece and husband Marvin of Skiatook; grandchildren, Dr. Shauna McKinney and husband Dr. Brett McKinney of Owasso, Melissa Oates and husband Rev. Fred Oates of Tulsa, Timothy Pece and wife Shalena of Skiatook, and Jason Dick and wife Courtney of Owasso; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josie Dick; first wife, Marjorie Erlene “Molly” (Bryant) Dick; second wife, Goldie “Turley” Dick; brother, Jimmy D. Dick; and granddaughter, Stephanie Anne Pece.
