Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth (Whitchurch) Smith, 99, widow of the late Emmett Smith, passed away at 9 a.m. on Friday in the Barnsdall Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the Arnold Moore - Barnsdall Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Paul Overholt will be the officiant. Committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Ethel Reece Cemetery by The Arnold Moore - Barnsdall Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith will lie in state in the Arnold Moore - Barnsdall Funeral Home where family and friends may call for their visitation until the service hour on Tuesday afternoon.

Dorothy Elizabeth Whitchurch was born on July 27, 1909, the daughter of the late James Whitchurch and Nancy (Wyatt) Whitchurch in the Wolco, Oklahoma, formerly the Candy Creek community, where she was reared and received her education and also in the Barnsdall community schools where she completed her education. She was the daughter of the late James and Nancy (Wyatt) Whitchurch. She and Emmett Smith were married on Nov. 14, 1926 and they made their first home in the Wolco community. Dorothy and Emmett were self-employed most of their lives as ranchers.

Mr. Smith preceded her in death in 1969 and since that time, Mrs. Smith has continued living in the Barnsdall community in retirement.

Surviving are her granddaughter, Sandra Putman, Broken Arrow, Okla.; two grandsons, Alan Smith, Norman, Okla. and Michael Wayne Smith, Barnsdall, Okla.; two great-grandsons, David Smith and wife Heidi of Dewey and Steve Smith of Bartlesville; one great-grandaughter, Carol Farris and husband Chad of Bartlesville; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda Ikenberry and husband Ed of Blackwell, Okla. and Bess White of Midland, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Emmett Smith, Jr.; five brothers, Jess, Earl, Melvin, Bob and Jimmy Whitchurch and two sisters, June Dooley and Audrey Yates as well as a daughter-in-law, Georgia Smith.
