Phillip (Pete) Leon O'Dell, 77, died at 6:18 AM on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at his home in rural Barnsdall.

Funeral services for Mr. O'Dell will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 20, 2015 at the Lighthouse Family Worship Center in Barnsdall with Barry Gott officiating. Interment will be in the Ethel Reece Cemetery at Barnsdall, OK, directed by Stumpff Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the Stumpff Funeral Home in Barnsdall on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Friday 9 to 11:00 AM.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Barnsdall Rural Fire Department 1270 CR# 2301 Barnsdall, OK 74002 or c/o American Heritage Bank 239 E. Main St. Barnsdall, OK 74002. Pete was born in Cushing, OK on May 12, 1938 to Albert and Nanny (Horsley) O'Dell. He was the youngest of seventeen children. He was raised and received his education in the Cushing area, and then enlisted in the Army in 1961. He served his country until July, 1967, when he was honorably discharged.

He married Wilma Jean Pendergraff on July 9, 1965, in Dewey, OK. Pete and Jean made their home in the Barnsdall area and remained happily married until Jean's passing in December, 2014.

Pete was employed with Zinc Corporation of America for several years before retiring to become a ranchhand for the Drummond family. At the time of his death, he was the chief of the Barnsdall Rural Fire Department, and had mentored many young firefighters through the years that he served in that capacity.

Pete spent many years hauling young cowboys, including his boy, Leon, to ropings all over the area. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, friends, and fire boys.

Pete is survived by one granddaughter, Brittney Layne O'Dell, of Nowata; three sisters, Lucille Ward, of Shawnee, OK; Evelyn Farbark and husband, Wayne, of Moore, OK; and Shirley Moad, of Guthrie, OK; one brother, Grover (Digger) O'Dell of Bartlesville, OK; one brother-in-law, Bob Pendergraff of Dewey, OK., along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers, 5 sisters, as well as his beloved wife, Jean and son, Leon.
