Services for Stan McCray, 35, of Boston, were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday May 16, 1989 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home Chapel in Tulsa, Okla. Burial followed at Ethel Reece Cemetery in Barnsdall, Okla.
A memorial service was held at 8 p.m. Monday May 15, at the Arlington Street Church in Boston.
Mr. McCray died of AIDS on Thursday, May 11, 1989 at his home in Boston.
Stan was born in Bartlesville, Okla., and attended the University of Oklahoma, He received his bachelor's degree in graphic design in 1976.
He moved to Arlington and worked as a free-lance illustrator before becoming art director of Scene Magazine , now Dallas Life Magazine, in 1979. In 1981, he moved to Houston, where he was art director for Houston City Magazine. He returned to The News in 1982, working for the advertising department. In 1984, he became art director for Boston Magazine, working there until his death. According to Boston Magazine editor David Rosenbaum, the magazine's June issue will include an article chronicling Mr. McCray's life and work and focusing on his struggle against AIDS.
Stan is survived by his parents, Bobbie McCray and Wyvonda Cornsilk McCray, and a sister, Kim McCray, all of Tulsa; and his companion, Jay Blake of Boston.
