Shockley Taliaferro Shoemake, 92, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma died June 2, 2015, at his home . Shockley was born at White Sands Teacherage near Bennington, Oklahoma, on November 5, 1922, the only son of Ceph Shoemake and Ora Belle Shoemake. He was married to Hazel Ann Hunt in 1955. Of this marriage, four children were born -- Bransford, John, Shelley, and Sheila. Hazel preceded him in death on November 1, 2013.

Shockley graduated from Mound Valley High School in 1939. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he studied Political Science and Law. His education was temporarily interrupted when enlisting in the United States Army. He served in all five campaigns of WWII with the 468 AAA and 4th Armored of the 3rd Army led by General Patton. After the war, he returned home and finished his legal education.

He moved to Wynona, Oklahoma, and opened his law practice in Pawhuska where he practiced for over 50 years. Shockley served In the Oklahoma House of Representatives, representing Osage County from 1950-1960. During that time, his political and legal careers were again interrupted when he served as Captain with the 45th Infantry division during the Korean War. Shockley was an avid historian and Civil War buff. Aside from his family, Shockley's passion was flying his Cessna 152, which he continued to do until a month before his death.

Shockley is survived by his four children: Bransford Hunt (Darlene) of Bartlesville, OK; John Taliaferro of Tahlequah, OK; Shelley Ann (Pat) Blizzard of Kingwood, TX; and Sheila Lou of Guthrie, OK. His grandchildren are Jacquelyn Lauren (Keith) Wilson, Zachary Hunt Shoemake, Hope Ann Floyd and Heidi Blizzard. Great-grandchildren are Alexander Floyd, William Floyd, and Fidel Floyd-Martinez. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many friends.
