Funeral services for James Jaydee Day, 79 of Skiatook, were held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Skiatook, with Kelly Chronister officiating. Interment in Osage Garden Cemetery in Skiatook was under the direction of Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home. Casket Bearers for the service were T.J. Day, Kyle Agnew, Richard Wooldridge, Jessie Day, Jay Hudson, Dennis Harrison and Al Pirtle. Honorary casket bearer was Frank Kitchen. Musical selections for the service were I Bowed On My Knees and Cried Holy , What A Day That Will Be , Hallelujah Square and Knowing Youll Be There sung by Matt Neighbors, Scott Neighbors and Bill Zodrow.
Military Services were presented at graveside by the VFW 5th Rifle Squad. Jaydee was born on June 26, 1929 in Waverly, Nebraska to Jeff and Georgia Cleo (Hibbard) Day. He was a graduate of Sperry High School. He married Geraldine Hudson on September16, 1953 and they made their home in Tulsa. Jaydee entered the Army on April 1, 1955 after basics in Camp Chaffie Arkansas. He was sent to Fort Knox Kentucky, where he attended the Armored School Wheel Vehicle Mechanic and also Track Vehicle Mechanic School. Gerry was with Jaydee at this time, but in November 1955 he was sent to Korea for 16 months. Gerry had to come home until Jaydee came home March 21, 1957. After Jaydees return they started attending the Eastside Baptist Church where Jaydee was saved and later ordained and served as a Deacon. Jaydee and his family moved to Sperry in 1970. Jaydee retired from the City of Tulsa where he worked as a lead man at the north side treatment plant. After retiring Jaydee and Gerry traveled many parts of the United States and Canada until he got to where he couldn't travel. Jaydee joined the First Baptist Church in August 1985. He loved the Lord and enjoyed his Sunday school class. Jaydee was a quiet man that never had much to say; he always said Gerry talked enough for the both of them. He was a loving husband and a gentle man, and a very good dad the greatest Grandpa and papa. We will miss you grandpa. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of the home, one son James David Day and wife Melissa of Skiatook; three grandchildren: Leslie Agnew and husband Kyle of Skiatook; Kristen Day of Tulsa; T.J. Day of Skiatook; great grandson Brayden Alan Agnew of Skiatook; a sister Hazel Griggs of Sperry; sister in law Catherine Day of Sperry; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister baby Pauline Day, two brothers Donald Day and Vernon Day.
