Gwendolyn Edwards Hurt

hurt-g-e

November 13, 1939 ~ April 13, 2023

Gwendolyn Hurt, age 83, went to be with the Lord the morning of Thursday, April 13, 2023. Gwen was born November 13, 1939 in Fairfax, OK to William T. and Hazel Lee Edwards. The youngest of 10 siblings, she was raised with her family in Naval Reserve, near Gray Horse, OK, and attended Gray Horse school before graduating from Fairfax High School. Gwen married Robert Wayne Hall, of Fairfax, in April 1959, and, though the marriage was short-lived, it blessed them with their only child, Robert Wayne Hall, Jr. Gwen raised Robbie in Pawhuska, OK before settling in Tulsa. Gwen spent most days with her lifelong friend and business partner, Ulus "Roe" Hurt, whom she knew since their time in Fairfax. Together they operated successful furniture stores in Jenks and later Sapulpa. Gwen frequented garage sales and auctions in the Tulsa area to stock their stores, and was a keen businesswoman who managed the business's finances. She was also an avid traveler in her middle age, visiting Mexico, Costa Rica, Greece, Turkey, Hawaii, and Australia. She made countless friends along the way, both at home and abroad. Gwen was ever generous and loving towards friends and family and was adored by all. Gwen and Roe wed on December 5, 2015, and spent her last years together at her home in Jenks, OK.

Gwen is survived by her grandson, Clifton Lee Hall, 32, wife Victoria, and great-grandson Rory Wayne Hall, 4, of San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law Catherine Rose Hall, 62, of Fairfax; and the love of her life, husband Ulus "Roe" Hurt, 91, of Jenks, and his sons Rob and Russell, both of Tulsa, and their wives, children, and grand-children, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her son Robert Wayne "Robbie" Hall, Jr., of Fairfax, former husband Wayne Hall, her parents, sisters Tina, Lillian, Patsy, and Jean, and brothers Bill, Jack, Don, Gordon, and Kenneth, in addition to friends and family from far and wide.

Gwen's funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2023 at Fairfax City Cemetery in Fairfax, OK, with Pastor Dennis Wildman officiating. A public viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday at Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home in Fairfax. A funeral dinner for family and friends will be held at the First Osage Baptist Church fellowship hall at 11:30 that morning.
