Roy Larwood Lawrence passed away on November 12, 2007 in Denison, TX at the age of 87. Born on June 15, 1920 in Durant, Oklahoma to William Burton Lawrence and Evelyn Ann Slaughter. He married Helen Nelson of Worcester,MA on December 27, 1949.

Mr. Lawrence served valiantly in the Army during WWII. As a member of the 45th Division, he participated in the liberation of Italy and the landings at Sicily, Salerno and Anzio and was awarded the Bronze Star and Silver Star for bravery under fire. He was also awarded the Purple Heart.

Upon returning to civilian life, he received his BS in education from Southeastern State College in Durant,OK and his Masters in Education from Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater, OK. He taught mathematics and science at public schools in Oklahoma for 35 years before retiring. He is a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. In his retirement years Roy loved to cook, wood carve and take care of his bulldog.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Helen, his parents; sister Maxine Palmer; a brother; William B. Lawrence and his beloved grandson Justin.

He is survived by sons Paul and wife Teresa of Oklahoma City, David and wife Sylvia of Van Alston, TX, brother Bill of Mead, Ok and a sister Ann Erhlich.

Graveside service will be 10:30am, Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at the Westlawn Cemetery with Rev. Rik Marion officiating. Services under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.

Military Funeral Honors will be conducted by the United States Army.
