Rev. Wayman "Whit" Whitley

Services: Thursday
Rev. Wayman “Whit” Whitley a resident of Henryetta passed away on June 3, 2006 in Henryetta at the age of 89. Born February 4, 1917 in Ft. Worth, TX. Whit served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII in the medical corp. He married Ethel Elizabeth Platt and was a longtime member of the Henryetta First Baptist Church where he taught the Maverick Sunday School class. He graduated from Baylor University in English Literature and was a journalist for WFFA radio in Ft Worth. He later attended OBU to pursue a medical degree and that’s when he was called into the ministry. He attended Seminary in Ft Worth, TX and served as an interim pastor for many churches in Texas and Oklahoma. He once was a writer with the Baptist Standard in Ft Worth and his work was always related to the ministry. Whit served on the Henryetta Chamber of Commerce Manager/Secretary for several years in the 50’s. He was a special friend of the Henryetta Public Library.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ethel Whitley, his second wife Flora Whitley, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be at the Rogers Funeral Home starting Tuesday through Wednesday.
Survived By Son: William Lee Whitley II of McKinney, TX,Daughter: Elizabeth Crickmer of Houston, TX,Grandchildren: Wilson Whitley, Stephanie Whitley and Kyle Whitley.
Graveside services will be 2:00pm, Thursday and the North Belton Cemetery in Belton, TX. Services conducted by the Rogers Funeral Home.
