Homer Emet Saunders a resident of Wilson Community passed away on April 3, 2005.
He was born on June 9, 1918 in Fitshugh,Ok to Emet and Pearl (Parker) Saunders. Homer graduated from Wilson High School in 1938.
He married Margie Kennedy on December 9, 1939, in Henryetta,OK and they made their home in the Wilson Community for more than 65 years.
He was a member of the Wilson Baptist Church. Homer was a farmer/rancher. He worked at Eagle Picher in Henryetta. He later owned and
operated Saunders’s John Deer Implement Company in Okmulgee for several years. He served 45 years on the Okmulgee County Soil and
Water Conservation Board. He helped organize and served on the Okmulgee County Rural Water District #1. He and his wife Margie spent
many happy hours during retirement years fishing the area lakes. Homer is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Herman
and Verdie Saunders.
Survived by his wife Margie of the home,5 Sons: Wendell Saunders & wife Connie of Coweta,Ok,
Homer Saunders Jr of Tulsa,Kenneth Saunders & wife Janna of Coweta,Johnny Saunders and wife Joy of Ft. Worth,TX,Joe Saunders of Tulsa,
2 Daughters: LaDana Christy and husband George of Schulter,Sandra Tillotson & husband Tom of Coweta,16 Grandchildren 19 great grandchildren,
Sister: Oleta Alston & husband Herman of Sapulpa,Sister in law: Hazel Saunders of Henryetta.
Services will be 2:00pm Thursday, April 7, 2005 at the Wilson Baptist Church, officiated by
Rev. George Christy, assisted by Rev. Michael O’Dell and Rev. Craig Hobbs. Interment will follow at the Salt Creek Cemetery under the direction
of the Rogers Funeral Home.
