James “Kevin” Wilson, 68-year-old Pryor resident, passed away Monday morning July 22, 2024, in the comfort of his home in Pryor, Oklahoma. He was born on June 26, 1956, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to James “JC” Cecil Wilson and LaVada Lorene (Spurgeon)Wilson. Kevin graduated from Morris High School in 1975. Kevin loved sports, his two favorites were football and wrestling. Professionally, Kevin, had many jobs from mowing yards to janitorial work at DHS, and working as a caregiver. He also had a passion for the outdoors. Throughout his life, Kevin found solace and joy in the simplicity of the outdoors. Whether it was fishing for crappie, playing a competitive game of horseshoes, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones around him. For 20 years Kevin was an active member and at times an officer of Oklahoma People's First a statewide organization that helps members advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. In the last 6 years he was on the board of directors and was also a trainer for the organization. He attended National Conferences and spoke to many state legislators on disability issues.
He was preceded in death by, his parents, sister Michelle Wilson, nephews Alec Norcom, Jesse Twist.
The surviving family includes his son, Jamie Wilson and wife Starr of Collinsville, Oklahoma, step-mother Pauline Wilson of Okmulgee, His siblings, Leanne Hill of Pryor, Oklahoma and Tammy Williams of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, His grandchildren, Christian James Wilson and wife Lauren of Edmond, Oklahoma, Joshua Aidan Daniel Wilson and Jaxon Beau Oliver Wilson of Collinsville, Oklahoma, and great-grandchild Everly Jane Wilson of Edmond, Oklahoma, nephews Jacob, Colton, Tyler, Bryce, uncle to great nieces, Lily, Ellie, Josie, Reagan, Adylyn, Sage, and one great nephew, Ryker and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at the Stephens-Key Funeral Home Chapel in Pryor.
The celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Stephens Memorial Chapel in Pryor. A potluck luncheon will be held at 2787 N. 439rd, Pryor after the service, before the interment. An interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Liberty Cemetery in Morris, Oklahoma.
