Willie Stubbs

Services for Willie Sam "Billie" Stubbs, 74, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the First Lutheran Church, Rev. Jason Steffenson will officiate. Burial will follow at Trice Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK. A wake will be held Wednesday, May 18 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Stubbs passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. He was born March 7, 1948, in Lee County, Mississippi to the Late Sammie David Stubbs and Clara Barnes Stubbs.
At an early age, he joined Ebenezer Baptist Church (Guntown, MS) where he was involved with teaching Sunday School and he later became a deacon and served as superintendent of Sunday School. He was very involved with the 4-H club and won several competitions.
Willie was a believer in the importance of education and demonstrated this throughout his life. He graduated as the Salutatorian from Lowes High School in 1965. After graduating from Lowes High School, he attended Lane College where he graduated in 1969 with a degree in Biology/Chemistry and became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He went on to pursue his master's degree in Chemistry Education from Mississippi State University.
Willie had an impressive career as an educator. He started his career in 1969 teaching in the Delta on the High School level. After teaching a year in the Delta, he taught at Nettleton High School. He later went to work for Lift, Inc. through the Headstart Program.
After his retirement, he continued his joys of collecting watches, guns, and watching golf, basketball and football. He enjoyed watching westerns and visiting family and spending time with his grandkids who he loved dearly.
Willie was preceded in death by his father, Sammie David Stubbs; mother, Clara Barnes Stubbs: wife, Barbara Lehman Stubbs and brother, Dr. Roy Stubbs, Jr.
He is survived by his only child, Sandy Tyes and husband Jimmy E., of Baldwyn, MS; three grandchildren, Sheneria Miller and husband Jake, Jimmy Jamal Tyes, Sommer Tyes; two sisters, Dr. Mary Gonsoulin, of Ada, OK and Abby Scott and husband David, of Guntown, MS and his special sister, Rev. Dorothy Townsend of Tupelo, MS; special cousin, Johnny Long, of Red Hill, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
