Flossie Louise Taylor

August 11, 1927 - January 8, 2010

Taylor, Flossie Louise, 82, of Oklahoma City left this earth on January 8, 2010. She was born August 11, 1927 to Thelma and Clavin Perry Mercer. She grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Putnam City High School. She became and accomplished artist in high school and carried that throughout her life. She married the love of her life Joel Ayres Taylor. They had four children and together they were very involved in the community. She was PTA President from `57-58 and again `66-68. It thrilled her to belong to Eastern Star where she developed many lifelong friendships. She was Worthy Matron of Del City Order of Eastern Star in 1970. Following the death of her husband she moved to Wewoka to enjoy small town life. She quickly immersed herself in the community and opened the Antique House 1983-2008. This was her passion she was always looking for finds, working on them, or researching antiques. Every week you could find her at Rotary Club where she served as the first woman President in Oklahoma. She was the United Wewoka Merchants President from 1983-85 and Sorghum Day Chairperson `84-86. Flossie was preceded in death by her parents, brother Hank Mercer, husband, daughter Teri Jo Johns, sons Mark and Timothy Taylor. She is survived by her brother Larry Mercer and sister Paggy Milligan both of Oklahoma City, daughter Lila Lee Schwartz, granddaughter Leesha Call both of Oklahoma City and granddaughters Adrea Johns and Christy McLaurin both of Midwest City, and 4 great grandsons. She loved to share her passion for antiques, art, and fishing with those who were willing to learn. She was a leader and creative thinker always striving to make the world more beautiful. Flossie was feisty, strong, and creative until the end. She is unforgettable; please join us as we celebrate her life at 2:00pm, Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the First Unitarian Church; 600 N.W. 13th St.; OKC. Visitation will be 5:00pm to 7:00pm Wednesday (1/13) at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home; 1820 S. Douglas Blvd. Midwest City. Interment to follow at SunnyLane Cemetery, Del City.
