Barbie Lynn Smith

July 16, 1965 - September 30, 2020

Barbie Lynn Smith (Walton) was born in Oklahoma City at St. Anthony's Hospital on July 16, 1965. She was born two months early and weighed around 2.9 lbs. at birth. She was quite a feisty fighter and was able to survive as a healthy baby.
She died on September 30, 2020 due to a recent illness at Alliance Health in Midwest City, Oklahoma. As a child, she was active in church choir, and Girl Scouts, and played piano and also played trombone in the band. She loved to dance at the sock hops on Friday nights. She loved gymnastics. She loved dressing up with her brother and sister and would put on plays for her parents. She would take the comedy role as Carol Burnett.
She graduated from Moore High School in 1984. Her jobs included Certified Nursing Assistant, Beautician, and manager at various businesses including Taco Bueno and a convenience store in Newalla, Oklahoma.
She was married to Jeffrey Neal Higgins in 1989, and had her children Joseph Lawreance Higgins and Jacob Neal Higgins. She later married James (Jimmy) Newton in 2001. She helped raise his daughter, Lisa Newton. He passed away in 2005. She married Allen Smith in 2011 and moved to his home in Newalla, Oklahoma. She loved living in the country and would sometimes sing to the birds and dogs outside. Allen passed away in 2019 from cancer.
Her relationship with Jesus was very important to her. She would post on Facebook many messages about God's love. Her family included her mother Sonja Iona Nicholas; her brother Rodney Lawrence Walton and his wife Laura, and children Rachel, Becca, Hayley and Will. Her sister is Tamara Dee Sponburg, and her grandchildren Riley Kirtley and Kimberlyn Kirtley. Her son Joey Higgins and his daughter Teagen, and son Jacob Higgins and his daughter Gracie. She has a blended brother Russell Sedbrook and blended mother Carm Walton who were extremely close to her. She has many and numerous cousins in Oklahoma, Texas, California, Washington, Oregon and Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Junior Walton; her husbands James Newton and Allen Smith; her nephew Ryan Kirtley; brother-in-law Donald K. Sponburg; and blended brother Bill Sedbrook. She was active in her church in Newalla and loved her church family. The family would meet weekly at her mom's, with her dad, Carm, brothers and sister, and children to have lunch and play games, usually on Sundays after church. They remained extremely devoted to each other. They loved holidays together. She will be truly missed. She was a light to so many people.
