Elgie Lee Rowell

March 12, 1931 - February 20, 2020

Elgie Rowell, age 88 of Newcastle, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020. Elgie Lee Tice was born March 12, 1931 in Hayti, MO, 1 of 7 children born to Henery and Icy (Cochran) Tice. Growing up on a farm, Elgie learned at a very young age, the value of hardwork. She worked alongside her brothers and sisters, picking cotton and whatever else needed to be done. She married young to Audray Rowell, and they made their home in Moore. Elgie worked a variety of jobs throughout the years. She was an assembly worker at Foundry and the Lynntone Belt CO., and also a nurse's aide at Hillcrest Hospital. Her greatest joy was being a wife and mother, and a mother, Elgie truly was. Elgie was a fierce advocate for children, and she fostered numerous young people for more than 50 years, many who still remember her caring and gentle nature. She enjoyed camping and fishing and tending to her gardens. She was a wonderful cook, and will be forever remembered for beans and cornbread, fried potatoes and her homemade biscuits. Elgie was a woman of great faith, and a longtime and faithful member of the Portland Avenue Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and she will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by:
Two daughters, Shirley Baker and Wanda VanGundy;
Her husband, Audray Rowell;
Her parents, Henery and Icy Tice and
Her siblings, Faye Daniels, Gene Tice, Alva Woolworth, Ella May Lewis, Pug Tice, Calvin Tice.
Elgie is survived by:
Children, Patricia Boettner of Newcastle, Gary Bowling and wife Emma of Mauldin, MO, Crystal Sheehy of Purcell, Josh Kau and wife Corrina of OKC, Stephanie Taylor of Lookeba, Christopher O'Briant of Binger, Kira Santi of Norman and Dewey Seabolt of Spokane, WA;
10 grandchildren, Charlie, Jeremy, Paul, Joleigh, Creed, Azarae, Gabriella, Mila, Sherry and Kim;
3 great grandchildren, Anthony, Emily, Charli, and a Host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at the Portland Ave. Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City.
