Mrs. Mary Aileen Rhodes
March 10, 1920 - January 5, 2015
Mary Aileen Rhodes fell asleep on the morning of January 5, 2015 to awaken in Heaven. Born 94 years, 9 months, and 26 days ago, she passed away of natural causes in the serenity of her home, Eden Care Homes in Oklahoma City.
A native of Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City, she lived most of her adult years in Norman. She was a homemaker and a business woman. In 1961, she became the tenth President of the Norman Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She was a founding member of the Forsythia Garden Club and until her retirement, an active member of Ex Libris Book Club.
When many of her friends were retiring during the late 1980s and 1990s, she went to work as the owner of Hopechest Antiques. Her impeccable taste and love of a "find" provided many days of enjoyment for her and her family.
Our mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother was preceded in death by her parents, Edward M. Stanmire and Arah Stanmire, and seven siblings. Her husband Cecil Rhodes, owner of Rhodes Grain Company in Norman, passed away in 2004.
She is survived by her daughter Sherry McDonald and her husband Richard, Norman; daughter Kathy Rhodes and her husband Brad Quillen, Oklahoma City; grandson David McDonald and his wife Julie and their children Charlie and Jack, Oklahoma City; grandson John McDonald and his wife Sandy, Moore; and grandson Seth McDonald and his wife Kara and daughter Katelin, Oklahoma City.
Mother was our foundation. Even when we all became adults, she continued to provide the spiritual, emotional, and financial support that made it possible for us to become the very best we wanted to be. We believe in Heaven and we believe we will join her there when it is time. Until then, we will remember what she taught us and we will miss her mightily.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman, OK. Graveside services are 1:00PM, Thursday January 8, 2015 at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City. Condolences may be shared at www.HavenbrookFuneralHome.com
