Betty was born in Madison, Wisconsin on April 18, 1936 and passed on January 28, 2020. She passed away surrounded by numerous family members, which shows how much she was loved. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Gerald J. McClure, Daughter, Debra Shatswell, her Mother, Beatrice Adeline, and her father Lawrence Anderson. She is also preceded in death by 4 of her 5 siblings: her 3 brothers, Roy, Lawrence and Jerry Anderson and 1 sister, Donna Leaper. She is survived by her Sister, Mary Roberts; Sons, Jerry McClure and wife Susan, David McClure and wife Linda, Daniel McClure and wife Deann; Daughters, Sharon Walker and husband Mike, Pamela Whitehead and husband David; Grandchildren, Lori McClure, Neschell and Christine McClure, Chris Shatswell, Sean Shatswell, Adam Shatswell, Matthew Shatswell, Gerald Shatswell, Jennifer Watkins, Joseph Watkins, Sara McClure Westmoreland, Sky McClure, Marshall McClure, Daniel McClure Jr, Jessica Robberson, Theodore Whitehead and Lisa Whitehead; Great Grandchildren, Jon and Kay, Miles and Brooklyn, Aidan, Damien, Marcus, Scarlet, Camron, Makayla, Kiley, Magnolia, Macy, Braxton, Halie, Noah, Brody, Logan and Lily.
Betty was one of 6 children, 3rd from the oldest. Her father worked for the government so they moved around a lot. She went to 22 schools in 10 years. Her fondest memories as a child were from Kenosha, Wisconsin. She loved the snow and was a wonderful ice skater. She loved sledding and skiing and also had a great talent for painting which followed her throughout her life. On April 1st, 1954, Betty, 16 years old at the time, married the love of her life, Gerald J. McClure, who was in the Air Force. She met him on a blind date with her oldest sister at the NCO Club. Betty and Gerald were excellent dancers and anytime they were on the dance floor dancing the Jitterbug, everyone cleared the floor. They were always in the spotlight. Mom was in the USO club where she learned to dance every style of dance.
By the time Betty was 26 years old, she and Gerald had 6 children. She was a stay at home mom and absolutely loved her job. When asked what she loved most about it, she said spending time with her children and husband. Teaching them how to make crafts, valentines, Easter baskets, etc. The most wonderful thing in her life besides her husband was having each of her children. She felt each one was a precious gift from God. She was always quick to forgive and her family always came first. Betty's greatest joy was playing with her children and grandchildren. Even if that meant having a water fight with her kids. Nothing was off limits. That includes her standing at the kitchen sink with the sprayer and every time one her kids would run by the window, she'd squirt them through the window! One of her greatest joys was when the grandchildren would run through the front door, yell her name "Grandma Betty!" and run up and hug and kiss her. That would always bring a huge smile to her face.
Betty and Gerald where married almost 45 years before he passed away in 1998.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM, Monday, February 3, 2020 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1107 Felix Pl, Midwest City, OK 73110.
Visitation will be Sat 4-8 PM and Sun 12-8 PM with the family present to greet friends from 2-4 PM at the funeral home, Vondel Smith @ I-44 and S.W. 119th Street S., OKC - Moore, Tri-City.
